malevolent design weblog

This blog is now defunct, but you can find more stuff over at my personal site

Mid-April Link Dump

Your business card is CRAP!
Amusingly Batemanesque.
Inside the precision hack
Coding a poll feature is really easy. Adding measures to minimise abuse is hard work (although the developers seem to have struggled with even the basics).
I’m not sure the gameplay lives up to the vast amount of great illustration/animation work, but it’s definitely worth a play.
5K Twitter Biorhythm Bot: Byobot
How about a BMIbot that receives height and weight, then responds with BMI and a description of how over/underweight you are?
Classic Arcade Sounds
Useful reference material for a faux-retro game I’ll soon be working on.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Dolphin the Wii Emulator (720p HD)
Make sure you click the HD button. It would be nice to think that Nintendo is already lining up a console that’ll deliver this kind of improved rendering for existing games, but in reality they’ll probably lazily milk the Wii’s success for a few more years until their user base dwindles back to being mostly younger kids (me, cynical?).
Using the AS3 Jpeg Encoder
Handy for Flash drawing/avatar-creation tools.
The question of Skeletor’s head
I love Wikipedia.
The Website Is Down: Excel Hell
Yeah, it treads a well-worn path littered with easy targets, but the attention to detail is fantastic and anyone who’s worked in anything IT-related will be nodding in recognition.
The Vintage Web
A site design I did in 1998 is still live and almost unchanged (no, I’m not going to link to it).
Telegram Stop
Nicely done, and the price isn’t too bad.
