The sudden worry that the person you’ve been instant-messaging is really busy and your messages are annoying interruptions.

Hehe, my mother really worries about this. If someone messages her she thinks she's coming across as rude unless she replies straight away. This makes the job of parental technical support even more frustrating, having to close messenger down every time you restart the machine or suffer the panic brought on by leaving a message window open.

I treat IM in the same way I treat SMS: asynchronous, reply when you like. I probably come across as rude to those who think like my mum.
